AAP’s Uncivil War

After performing like Mohalla Cricket Team in MCD, Goa and Punjab elections, the party is on the brink of rebellion and internal strife is stoking war within centers of power in the party. Illogical rant against EVMs has been dismissed by Bhagwant Mann, Alka Lamba and Kumar Vishwas. Vishwas has challenged the leadership for debacle in elections. His outburst is a surgical strike against the hegemony of Kejriwal who has forced MCD councilors to take an oath of purity not to ditch the party. Vishwas may meet the same fate as Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav so that Rajya Sabha nomination from state of Delhi in 2018 becomes easier for Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh and Alka Lamba. The kind of brute majority AAP enjoys in Delhi assembly, Rajya Sabha nominations would be a cakewalk.

Taking a leaf out of Yogi’s governance book, Sisodia, too, has cancelled holidays on eve of birth and death anniversaries of personalities. Rant against EVM has stopped as of now. Are they taking governance seriously now? Well! Only time can tell. Given the unpredictability of the party, they might rake it (EVM issue) up when Election Commission announces the dates of hackathon. Unpredictability is their guerrilla warfare methodology. Consistency has always been a casualty in the party. AAP’s official stand changes with mood swings of Kejriwal – the be all and end all of the party.

Bhagwant Mann’s diatribe against party leadership for shoddy treatment of Punjab elections indicates that party may face split in the state. Daggers are drawn. Resignation of Sanjay Singh and Durgesh Pathak comes quite late and hardly serves any purpose of course correction. The morale of workers and volunteers is an all-time low. It would be quite interesting to note how AAP would take up the Gujarat challenge and elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

In response to Amit Shah’s “Ebar Bangla”, Didi has retorted by saying “Dilli Chalo” to capture Delhi. Didi and Kejri are the perennial “partners-in-crime”. Their brilliance showed when they put up “Best Performance in a Negative Role” against demonetization in Delhi. They should have got National Award for their performance. I urge Akshay Kumar to return National Award so that deserving Didi and Kejriwal can be felicitated. Passions are bound to flare up sooner than later in Delhi. Expecting tranquility on Kejriwal’s home turf is like expecting Barkha Dutt to observe Karva Chauth fast. In an unrelated event, Arun Jaitley unveiled NDTV journalist, Sunetra Chaudhry’s book “Behind Bars”. The name of the book “Behind Bars” does ring a bell. “Behind Bars” situation may haunt Kejriwal in defamation case filed by Jaitley. Election commission has reserved verdict on disqualification of 21 AAP MLAs. It’s going to be a bumpy ride ahead.
