Samsung R&D Bangalore has built Iris recognition technology into a tab called “Samsung Iris” aimed at India’s government and enterprise community. Samsung Iris supports Aadhar authentication. This device is bound to disrupt cashless applications in banking, healthcare, eGovernance services like passport, taxation and property registration.
Police verification for passports has gone online in Bangalore on May 14 2016. Iris could be used for authentication of passport applicants who have Aadhar number. Since the device is Aadhar compliant, it can be used to enroll children in Aadhar. Currently, biometrics of parents is used to authenticate children for enrollment. Iris could simplify the child enrollment process for Aadhar.
For banking services, Iris recognition technology can be used to enhance security for fixed deposits, high value transactions, locker facility etc and phase out the paperwork. Citizen services like income tax filing , passenger verification of railways, airways can go paperless with Iris recognition technology. UIDAI Chief Ajay Bhushan Pandey has said that everyone will have Aadhar number by March 2017. Iris recognition technology should be harnessed to promote inclusion and financial security.
