At Non Striker’s End

In 2016, there were 228 cease fire violations along Line of Control and 221 along International Border. In April 2017, there have been seven ceasefire violations by Pakistan along LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sectors in Kashmir. The barbaric act of mutilation of Indian soldiers, in Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch, by Pakistan has outraged entire nation. We have been put on back foot and the enemy’s provocation is escalating day by day. Arrest of Kulbhushan Jadhav was IMG_20170502_064344an attempt by Pakistan to provoke India to come to talks. Consular access to ex- Indian Naval Officer Jadhav has been denied. His health status too has not been divulged. There is hardly any protest lodged by India in international forums. I do not see any possibility of visa for parents of Mr Jadhav. Jadhav’s parents should be given visa. It’s a human rights issue. Silence of champions of human rights in India like Aakar Patel of Amnesty International India hardly comes as a surprise. India has failed to build up pressure against Pakistan on Jadhav’s case. Pakistan has brazened it out and flouted international laws and we have not moved beyond condemnation (Kadi Ninda). Why are the lawyers, who petitioned Supreme Court against hanging of Yakub on human rights, hiding in hell holes?

IMG_20170502_064647With a part – time Defense Minister, whose credentials as Finance minister hardly inspire any confidence, an appropriate response with precision is impossible to expect. Ceasefire violations have continued unabated. Army should not wait for Prime Minister’s nod to execute another round of surgical strikes. Army has been constrained. It has not been given free hand to deal with over ground supporters of terrorists in the valley. Army needs to be unshackled. We need an army doctrine to deal with these irritants. Let army follow it word by word. No questions asked. Unshackle part-time Defense Minister too to appear on NDTV as many times as he would like to. You can take Information and Broadcasting ministry from Jaitley but you cannot take NDTV out of him. In absence of Barkha, Sunetra is being pampered. He has raised the bar of patronage by inaugurating book launch of Sunetra (Behind Bars). It’s time to axe the deadwood in the cabinet. Dr Swamy can do justice to both Defense and Finance portfolio. Will Modi take a leap of faith and get rid of Jaitley? The sooner, the better!

The country is under attack by forces within the country and rogue neighboring nation. Left wing extremism has not been contained. CRPF soldiers were martyred in Sukma. A surgical strike is needed on “Gandhians with Guns” and “Urban Naxalites” feeding off taxpayer’s money in universities. Our martyrs and their families need funds for sustenance. We cannot afford to fritter away precious resources on supporters of Naxalites and Separatists.
