Crackdown on Terror Moneybags : Will it lead to opening of can of worms?

NIA took terror moneybags completely off guard when raids started as early as 6 am in the morning today. Raids have happened in more than 14 locations in the valley. Locations in Delhi (Greater Kailash) and Sonepat have been raided too. The biggest crackdown on funding of Separatists is bound to open the terror tinderbox. The manner in which Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti avoided questions from journalists regarding NIA raids tells a telling tale that leaders across PDP and National Conference may be hand in glove with separatists and flow of terror funding goes through echelons of power in the state.

Both PDP and National Conference have played soft separatism in the past pandered to secessionists. NIA raids have made them cagey. The outcomes of these raids would send shockwaves across the political spectrum in the state. Since the terror finance links have gone beyond the state and businessmen (Dharmesh Garg,Pitampura, Delhi) are under the scanner for hawala transactions and links with separatists.

Crackdown on terror finance conduits have ruffled feathers across LOC and Pakistan has resorted to ceasefire violations inPoonch, Rajouri. Assertiveness of Central government needs to be lauded but it remains to be seen whether these raids will lead to closure or there will be a lull and things will be allowed to cool down.

Terror funding needs to be nipped in the bud even if it means sacrificing the BJP-PDP alliance for the greater good of the state.
